The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, or ASE, will retire five certification and recertification exams by the end of this year. Testing for the affected areas will no longer be offered after Dec. 31.

- E1: Truck Equipment Installation and Repair
- E2: Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation and Repair
- E3: Auxiliary Power Systems Installation and Repair
- P4: General Motors Parts Consultant
- X1: Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems
Vice President of Credential Testing Programs Matt Shepanek encouraged people seeking certification or recertification in those categories to complete testing before the deadline.
“These are low-volume tests. Retiring them allows us to focus resources on developing credentials the industry is asking for,” he said.
ASE President and CEO Dave Johnson noted that updates are under way across several certification areas.
“We continuously evaluate certification needs and are currently updating several automotive series tests,” Johnson said. “We’re also developing new credentials for advanced vehicle safety and security systems.”
ASE emphasized that the move is part of an ongoing effort to align certification offerings with evolving industry demands.
